- Half the children in Bulgaria have suffered some form of violence.
- Emotional violence is the most common.
- One-third of children have suffered physical violence.
- 15.6 % have experienced sexual violence.
- One in seven children reports having suffered cyberbullying on social media.
- One-third of children report that they feel in danger at home, at school or in their community.
How are we helping?
UNICEF has supported the development of Zona ZaKrila, child advocacy and support centres. Zona ZaKrila provides a safe space where children and parents can receive comprehensive and free support in one place from competent and well-trained psychologists, social workers and lawyers. The teams work in cooperation with the child protection departments, education system, police, prosecution and justice system, while facilitating the efforts of all institutions in the best interest of the child.

Child Advocacy Centres are working with children, but also to improve the whole environment around the child victims of violence. Support is also provided to parents who have been abused, as well as to the whole family, for them to overcome the trauma of violence and together to be able to move forward.

The mission of Zona ZaKrila is for children who have experienced violence to come out empowered without having to carry the severe consequences of the trauma, or to feel threatened by new aggression or violence.

The team is available 24/7 to respond to all types of violence.

The assistance provided by Zona ZaKrila is aimed at both children who have experienced violence and those who are perpetrators of violence who can work on different models that deal effectively with anger and aggression.

Support the creation of three new Centers in three new regions in Bulgaria
Directly supporting 450 children and their parents victims of violence and their families to cope with the consequences of violence and move on with their live.
150 experts will be trained, allowing them to support another 1 800 children and families at risk.
Reaching 200,000 people with specialized information and counseling to prevent violence against girls, boys and women.
Will work for the sustainability of the service and available nationwide.
